I went to a wedding yesterday.
There were men in the audience who thought, "What else could I have given this friendship to have been an usher?"
There were ushers who looked to the front of the chapel and thought, "What else could I have given this friendship to have been a groomsman?"
There were groomsmen who looked to the top of the stage and thought, "What else could I have given this friendship to have been the best man?"
The best man stood proud at the top of the stage, but his crown was heavy as he thought, "Will I be expected to return this favor some day?"

So incredibly true. I've been that maid of honor, wondering if I need to have the bride be in my wedding whenever that comes along.
i'm not inviting anyone who's not an usher.
all my ushers are also groomsmen.
and although i do have a best man, we refer to him exclusively as the b.m.
all in all, it's a pretty level playing field
your blog still rocks
after seeing the post title i was sincerely hoping that you'd created a rubric and ranked your those you consider to be friends.
I went to a wedding where the groom held a week-long competition for the position of Best Man. All of the groomsmen competed in skeet shooting, bowling, golf, and horseshoes. The winner was announced during the wedding ceremony and got to move to the front of the line.
I thought it was a creative way to deal with it...literally letting the best man win....
And who doesn't love skeet shooting to celebrate a marriage??
