Goofy

I’m blogging from Rob’s living room in New York. We’re having a great time, but I need to be “real” with you about something. Elaine McChesney is a good friend, and I appreciate her for being a straight-shooter. She and I were having a beautiful night in the Big Apple, until the conversation took a turn for the unfortunate. I asked her, “Elaine. I need your advice. I really want to impress the babes in next year’s medical school class. How can I get them to think I’m sexy?” She replied, “Sorry, Justin. That’s just not you. You’re too goofy and fun.” Wow. The thing no guy wants to be. Goofy*. I was devastated. It's a sad realization to learn you'll never be able to win a woman over with sex appeal.

*Definition of Goofy according to dictionary.com: ridiculous; silly; wacky; nutty

Well, at least you asked the right person. Elaine is the only person I know that can manage to be wacky yet bring sex appeal one can feel at the same time, so if she says you don’t have what it takes, i guess you don’t have what it takes.

but "goofy" was probably the wrong word

Goofy? Nutty? Wacky? Sometimes when I think about Elaine, I actually imagine her body with the face of Goofy, the disney cartoon character. Ordinarily, I wouldn't mention it, but I think it's relevant here- she undoubtedly meant the word goofy as a compliment. When Elaine called you goofy, she was indirectly saying that you are like her. Here is her logic:
goofy = Elaine
Elaine = sexy
goofy = sexy
Justin = goofy
Justin = sexy

There we go....looks like you're sexy after all.

Didn't you guys both date Elaine?

yup. i actually dated her twice, for better or worse. the goofy/sexy charm, throw in with a little latin spice, was a huge draw that could only cause the count pain in the end.

Improper application of the transitive property Jon.

jus, obviously she hasn´t seen your bod since the summer health kick. clearly what you should have done the moment she said that is rip your shirt off, hold your arms straight out and slightly up, slowly spin in a circle, and yell at the top of your lungs, "Is this goofy? Is it? What!" That would have undeceived her.

I guess beefy was right. My wife of 26 years calls me "goofy" all the times, but she really means "sexy" whenever she says it. Some women just can't bring themselves to breathe the s word. Trust me, experience counts. You are indeed very goofily sexy.

I guess I am no guru. I can't even spell it right. I guess I am just a guru wannabe. Sorry Justin. Find a new and real GURU.

Wolfy, Beefy, & Count:

First of all--I never said, "that's just not you, Justin". The real story: I said, "when I look at you I think fun, entertaining, goofy, not like 'Sexy' right away!" And, second, I told Justin that sexy was something that would develop in a more intimate, more appropriate setting--other than anatomy lab.

Actually, maybe the whole goofy=sexy logic isn't quite off.

AND you are also refined! So you do have what it takes--goofy (sexy in this case) & refined--you are set for medical school next year.

oh-but jon... i remind you of goofy, a silly dog with a manly chuckle!?

Thank you,
Elaine

I stand by my account of the story. I also appreciate the support y'all have given. Don't worry about me- I'll bounce back from this.

rest assured whyjustinwhy - i think this is a case of male/female differences. i've been sitting here trying to think of whether i've ever thought "so-and-so is soo sexy," and i couldn't come up with a single guy. girls just don't think that way, especially not initially.

i have a hard time believing that, neidmore.

ah, well . . .

Thanks for the post, Nieder! But I've heard plenty of girls tell me that a random guy looks "hot", including McCheesy.

to be fair, nieder didnt reference calling someone "hot". she said she never said to herself that "so-and-so is soo sexy". huge difference.

haha - so glad i checked this again b/c i had no idea so much discussion was taking place in the blogosphere! to be quite honest, after i left that post i thought to myself, "shoot - did i just tell an accidental lie?!" let me explain...

the word "sexy" has come to mind before, but only for famous movie star type guys who i don't know (ie. McCheesy). and in this case, my definition of "sexy" is the following: someone who is not necessarily good looking, but there is just something about him that is attractive.

as anonymous pointed out, there is a huge difference between "sexy" and "hot." i think lots of guys are hot, including, but not limited to, any/all guys i've dated :)

and while we're on the topic, just the other night i had a guy tell me i'm a "goof." should i be offended? this blog makes me wonder...
